Read additional coverage of the Greeley Rally:
To thunderous chants of "Ritter! Ritter! Ritter!," gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter and U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar along with a stage full of local, state, and federal candidates urged hundreds of volunteers to close out the final days of the campaign with energy and intensity.
Six months ago, when Ritter accepted the Democratic Party's nomination in Greeley, he said the election would come down to hope vs. cynicism. "I couldn't have been more right," Ritter told today's crowd. "We have seen the politics of cynicism, the politics of trying to scare people, the politics of focusing on things that have nothing to do with the future."
"My family and I have lived the Colorado Promise," Ritter added. "I want to make sure that promise is extended to every person in Colorado. Barbara O'Brien and I will invest in the promise of Colorado. We will do everything we can to make sure that the state we turn over to our children and grandchildren will be better than the one we found."

In Steamboat and Durango, crowds of more than 100 each rallied with Bill, Barbara, Mark Udall, John Salazar, and a slate of local candidates. "We should honor November 7 as a national holiday," Bill said, "but it's only special if people vote."
Bill vowed to serve as a stubborn steward of Colorado's special places, and borrowing a line from Mark Udall's brother, Randy, said that he would fight anyone who failed to protect Colorado's environment "until hell freezes over, and then we're going to fight them on the ice."

More than 200 enthusiastic and energized volunteers crammed into the Mesa County Democratic Headquarters this morning to get fired up by Bill, Barbara, John Salazar, Mark Udall, and Bernie Buescher. That's more than twice as many who showed up for a Bob Beauprez-Scott Tipton rally in Grand Junction a day earlier -- and this is supposed to be a "red" county!!
"The Colorado Promise is very much alive in these two people," John Salazar said as he introduced Bill and Barbara.
"I really feel an emotional tie to the people of Mesa County," Bill said, "because of your commitment to Colorado and your commitment to elect responsible leaders."
The visit to Grand Junction was the first stop in a weekend plane trip around Colorado that also will take Bill and Barbara to Steamboat Springs, Gunnison, Durango, Alamosa, and Greeley.
Over the past two weeks, Bill and Barbara have visited more than 40 counties and traveled nearly 3,000 miles as part of their statewide Colorado Promise tour.

The Colorado Promise bus tour is barnstorming across the Eastern Plains today, with stops in more than a half-dozen communities. Bill and Barbara rallied voters in Fort Morgan, Brush, Sterling, Paoli, Wray, Yuma, and Akron. Several of Bill's family -- all wearing their white Ritter for Governor T-shirts -- are traveling on the bus today. They all sat together on the bench at Northeastern Junior College while Bill spoke to students in the gym. Tomorrow, the bus stays in the metro area with New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar to encourage voters to take advantage of the last day of early voting and to kick off Bill's final 96-hour Get Out The Vote drive. |

Read these articles about the campaign visit to Fort Collins:
Gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter rode his "Colorado Promise" tour bus into Fort Collins today, rallying more than 100 supporters during a noontime rally aimed at getting out the vote. Ritter called on voters of all political stripes to make their voices heard by voting early, voting by absentee ballot, or voting on Nov. 7. "We all win when everyone votes," Ritter told the crowd gathered in Old Town Plaza Square.
He said his "Colorado Promise" platform of education and health-care reform, economic stimulation, renewable energy, and environmental protection are not Democratic ideas or Republican ideas. "They are American ideas," he said.
Ritter embarked on the statewide "Colorado Promise" tour on Oct. 21. Since then, the tour has traveled more than 2,000 miles and visited nearly three dozen communities. Joining Ritter on the bus today were Colorado Democratic Party Chairwoman Pat Waak, state treasurer candidate Cary Kennedy, and congressional candidate Angie Paccione.
"There is a dramatic difference between myself and Congressman Beauprez," Ritter said. "We have a plan for how we go forward in the 21st century to make Colorado a better place for our kids and our grandkids. He doesn’t. If we don’t make investments in our future, we do so at our peril."
Earlier today, Ritter joined state Sens. Joan Fitz-Gerald and Betty Boyd for high-visibility honk-and-waves in Jefferson County. Ritter also toured Poudre Valley Hospital and met with physicians. This evening, he will hold a rally in Castle Rock.
On Thursday, the "Colorado Promise" tour will visit Northeast Colorado, and on Friday Ritter will kick off his final 96-hour push to Election Day. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson will join Ritter on the tour bus in and around metro Denver.

Friday was a wildly successful day for Bill and the Colorado Promise tour. Bill started the day by meeting with about 50 supporters in Cortez, completing the "border to border" component of the tour (the day before he was in Springfield in far southeast Colorado). In Durango, an energetic, bipartisan crowd of more than 100 people turned out in Rotary Park to rally with Bill, state Rep. Mark Larson and state Sen. Jim Isgar. Up the road in Pagosa Springs, the audience featured young and old alike as Bill spoke under clear blue skies. The Colorado Promise tour bus then cruised up Wolf Creek Pass and stopped in South Fork. Bill wandered away for a few moments of solitude to take a phone call, and then it was on to Del Norte where he shook hands with the locals while his staff - including volunteer coordinator Esteban Salazar - conducted their own "honk and wave" on the side of the road. Bill also took a moment in Del Norte to visit "Frank the Pharmacist" at Adams Drugs. Bill made additional stops in Monte Vista and La Veta before heading to Pueblo for the night. By the end of Friday, the Colorado Promise tour bus will have traveled nearly 1,000 miles and carried Bill to two dozen campaign stops. On Saturday, the bus will stop in Pueblo for an "Early Vote" rally with U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar and his brother U.S. Rep. John Salazar before heading to Denver for a full day of "Early Vote" rallies and events. Sen. Salazar, former Gov. Roy Romer, and former Mayor Wellington Webb will join the bus tour on Saturday. |
